THE ASTROLABE MEASURES ABOUT 6″ X 8″ AND WAS HAND MADE BY A BEDOUIN CRAFTSMAN. THE IDEA BEHIND THE ASTROLABE WAS THAT THE BEDOUIN TRIBESMAN LOOKED UP AND FOUND THE NORTH STAR AFTER THE ASTROLABE FOUND THE CONSTLATION, WHICH POINTED TO THE NORTH STAR AND WAS THEN ABLE TO FIND A NORTHERN DIRECTION. EACH TRIBE MASTER HAD ONE. IT WAS MADE WITH BRASS AND BRONZE AND WAS USUALLY DATED IN THE YEAR 1707, WHICH WAS THE BIRTHDATE OF MOHOMAD. THE INSTRUMENT WAS VERY ACURATE FOR TELLING TIME AND DIRECTION. ON NAVIGATION. THE SAILER USED IT TO DETERMINE NAVIGATIONAL NORTH.
